How to Design and Decorate a T-Shirt -

Materials:

T-shirt, cloth of your choice

Crayons

Iron

Newspapers

½ c. vinegar

1 c. water

cloth for pressing

3 TBS salt

1 qt water

1.If whatever you are using is new wash it first. Stencil or draw your designs onto your lightweight paper. Outline with a red or orange crayon. Lay the paper face down on the fabric. Run a medium iron over the paper to transfer you design to the fabric. Remember to write any letters or words backwards so they come out right on the shirt.

2. Stretch your cloth over something to color on. You can put a heavy piece of cardboard up under the shirt too. Color in your design with crayons. The more crayon you use the deeper the color will be. Turn the color design face down on several sheets of newspaper. If you are doing a T-Shirt you would turn it inside out and slip several layers of newspaper in between the shirt the front and back.

3. Mix vinegar and 1 cup of water. Dip pressing cloth into vinegar mixture and squeeze out most of the fluid. Place the pressing cloth over the designed cloth and press with a hot iron.

4. Mix salt and 1 quart of water. Soak the designed cloth in this solution for 3 to 4 hours.

5. Gently wash in lukewarm water and mild soap. After it has dried it is permanent. Wash in warm water and mild soap. Hang dry.
